Our Convention

In its 63rd year, AMSA’s National Convention will arrive in Newcastle and we can’t wait to welcome you to another unforgettable week where delegates can connect from all over Australia. A premiere event filled with NEW experiences, NEW perspectives and NEW friendships.

AMSA National Convention is the largest student run conference in the world and brings together over 800+ medical students from across Australia and New Zealand. This unforgettable week contains inspiring academics, an exhilarating social program, sporting highlights, challenging intervarsity competitions, the emergency medical competition, professional networking opportunities and MORE.

Convention embodies the core values of AMSA and continues to be the highlight of the Association’s calendar every year. It is a more-than-a-million-dollar event proudly run by volunteers, and our team hopes to spark an eye opening and enriching experience, generating significant professional and personal development for the next generation of delegates.

Our Home

Newcastle last held the National Convention in 2002. Since then, the infrastructure and culture of Newcastle has undergone rapid development and is due to be showcased to our AMSA family. So come bathe in the Newcastle charm, a magical sense of "small town big city" Convention camaraderie. Lazy Sunday brunch spots (or rather daily morning avocado re-fuel) are aplenty and surf/beach culture is strong (yes even in winter).

Our Team

Our NEW22 team is more than a team, we are a family.

Family means supporting one another, inspiring one another continuously to strive higher, and, of course, just having fun together. Individual wellbeing is an utmost priority and systems such as blackout/blue weeks and retreats are also set in place to manage burnout and ensure our volunteers enjoy the time and energy they invest into NEW22. We all love a boogie so you can expect to catch our team around from socials, to petting zoos, to wholesome brunches.

Our team is currently hard at work building the way to a unique, unforgettable Convention and are looking to get more hands onboard. Our subcommittee applications open July 11th! (all the details in the next page).
